Volunteer Work and Experience

September 2017 - May 2020

University of Michigan’s Red Cross Club

  • Contributed to the local community of Ann Arbor by installing smoke detectors in houses to improve safety and increase awareness of potential household dangers

  • Managed the annual “Run for the Red” 5k, the largest fundraising event for the Red Cross Club. Although canceled due to COVID, my team and I still raised thousands of dollars for the club’s yearly expenses and contributed to the National Red Cross organization

  • Lead a CPR training event where I taught 10-15 students basic CPR and Heimlich maneuver techniques

September 2017 – May 2018

University of Michigan’s Pre-Surgeons Club

  • Taught children about architecture at the local hands-on museum in Ann Arbor, Michigan

  • Attended panel events with medical students and residents to gain perspective on the medical field.

Abbey Park Retirement Home

Lead events such as bingo, the Wii bowling league, and arts/crafts where I was able to engage the elderly in fun, physical and mental activities

October 2014 – October 2015

Huron Valley Sinai Hospital

  • Over 100 volunteer hours with direct patient contact. My role was to ensure that patients were feeling well and to accompany them during their time in post-operation

  • Maintained a readily available supply of materials for nurses and doctors to use in the supply room

June 2018 – August 2018

Shadowing Cardiologist

Side by side with one of U of M’s MD/PhD cardiologist, I engaged with the cardiologist as well as several different patients each day. I was able to get a sense of clinical work, ask about what sort of lifestyle a job in the medical field leads, and I was able to ask some of the many cardiology related questions I had.

March 2019 – April 2019

Phlebotomy Course

16-hour introduction course to phlebotomy where we performed standard syringe blood draws and butterfly blood draws from the arm and hand. Additionally, we were tested on our knowledge of general blood borne pathogens and safety precautions.

May 2020 – August 2020

Shadowing Pharmacist

Shadow a local, independent pharmacist to learn about the various roles of workers within a pharmacy, learn about the field of pharmacy and pharmacology, and learn about the intricacies of managing an independent pharmacy.

June 2020 – August 2020

3d Printing Facemasks

Worked multiple 3D printers to make plastic face shields during the COVID 19 pandemic. These face shields helped hospitals when face mask supplies were low. Face shields are still being made, shipped, and stored at local hospitals in the event of another outbreak.
